Book Reviews for the Disillusioned

"The Trial" Franz Kafka: The creeping sense of futility is so pervasive as to suggest opening a vein as a viable alternative.

"War and Peace" Leo Tolstoy: An infinite number of pages of description of the mating habits of people who aren't that interesting. Napoleon makes a cameo appearance.

"Ulysses" James Joyce: A long book about a single day in which the every third line is an in-joke or an obscure reference to a book the author's read and you haven't.

"Moby Dick" Herman Melville: A book about this dude Ishmael who has nothing better to do than get on a ship with a captain who is a known psychotic with delusions of grandeur and an impressive whale fixation. Surprisingly, things don't go well. Ishmael reconsiders his life choices.

"Anna Karenina" Leo Tolstoy: A beautiful young woman falls in love with a dashing military officer. After extensive agony over her feelings she discovers he only wants her for sex. She throws herself in front of a train. The dashing military officer lives happily ever after.

"Jane Eyre" Charlotte Bronte: A brooding older man romances a young impressionable lady. Later it is learned he's already married and that the wife lives in his house. It's ok though. It's a big house and the wife might be crazy.
