Liberal and Conservative
I don't find the labels liberal and conservative useful to describe
myself. They quite frequently seem to be a kind of tribalism and I
distrust all tribalism.
It seems to me you should examine each policy problem independently. Preconceived ideas are likely to get in the way of good policy.
Now I strenuously believe in conserving the environment, which ought to make me a conservative, but instead makes me a liberal.

I also
believe in spending our tax dollars with responsible restraint, which
makes me a conservative. And I believe in governmental oversight of
capitalism, which makes me, I don't know, socialist?
And I believe in a strong military as a strong deterrent to aggression. At the same time I am very suspicious of being the world's policeman. I think we should be strong allies with our friends and keep our nose out of places it does not belong.
I think contraception should be free and ubiquitous. This sounds socialist again, but it should lead to less governmental spending.
So am I conservative or liberal?
